Peaceful UNDAS 2024 in Zamboanga Sibugay: Police Presence and Community Support Key to Orderly Observance

Zamboanga Sibugay, Philippines — The Zamboanga Sibugay Police Provincial Office (ZSBPPO) proudly announced a peaceful and orderly observance of UNDAS 2024, a period marking All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day when Filipinos traditionally pay respects to deceased loved ones. The success of this year’s commemoration was attributed to heightened security measures and collaborative community efforts.

ZSBPPO, under the direction of Provincial Director PCOL Barnard Danie V. Dasugo, rolled out comprehensive security protocols that ensured public safety across cemeteries, transportation hubs, and other key areas. Police presence was visibly strengthened, complemented by continuous community engagement initiatives that fostered a sense of shared responsibility among the public. Provincial authorities further reported round-the-clock inspections conducted by the Red Teaming Team, led by PCOL Dasugo, ensuring compliance with security standards and swift responsiveness.

In his statement, PCOL Dasugo praised the police officers and Force Multipliers, as well as the community, for their support in upholding peace and order during the UNDAS observance. “While ensuring a safe and secure observance of this important Filipino tradition, our regular law enforcement operations continued, leading to significant accomplishments,” said PCOL Dasugo. “I commend every police officer, our Force Multipliers for your unparalleled dedication…our strong partnerships combined with security measures attributed to these successes regardless of the circumstances.”

Despite the intensive UNDAS coverage, ZSBPPO successfully maintained its regular law enforcement operations, with a total of 41 law enforcement activities executed during the observance. These included:

  • Arrests: Five wanted individuals, two of whom were classified as Top Most Wanted, were apprehended.
  • Anti-Illegal Gambling: Twelve anti-illegal gambling operations conducted.
  • Loose Firearms: Eleven loose firearms and one explosive were voluntarily surrendered for safekeeping.
  • Anti-Illegal Fishing: Seven operations to curb illegal fishing activities.
  • Illegal Logging: Two anti-illegal logging operations.
  • Surrenders: Two suspected Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) supporters voluntarily surrendered.
  • Drug Enforcement: One drug buy-bust operation.

ZSBPPO expressed its gratitude to the public for their cooperation and vigilance, emphasizing that the positive outcomes during UNDAS underscore the strength of community-police partnerships.
