New Educational Opportunity Opens for Davao Oriental Provincial Government Employees Through Mandarin Language Training Program

In a bid to boost global awareness and strengthen ties between the Philippines and China, a new educational opportunity has opened for employees and officials of the Davao Oriental provincial government. The Mandarin Language Training Program, introduced as a collaborative initiative, aims to enhance participants’ linguistic skills while fostering cross-cultural relations.

Governor Niño Uy expressed his deep appreciation for the program’s launch in the province, recognizing the support from various institutions involved. The program was made possible through a partnership between the Confucius Institute at Ateneo de Davao University (CI-ADDU), Davao Oriental State University (DORSU), and the Provincial Government of Davao Oriental. This collaboration seeks to equip local officials and employees with Mandarin language skills, thereby enhancing bilateral relations between the Philippines and China.

During the program’s launch, Consul General Zhao Xiuzhen from the Chinese Consulate in Davao led the Chinese delegation. In her remarks, she conveyed wholehearted support for the initiative. According to Consul General Zhao, the Mandarin Language Training Program not only aids in language learning but also serves as a bridge for closer relations between the two countries, offering a wealth of opportunities for both sides.

Governor Uy also expressed his enthusiasm for the program’s potential impact on the province. He emphasized that Mandarin proficiency could open significant opportunities in Davao Oriental, particularly in the fields of investment and tourism.

The launching ceremony was attended by representatives from Ateneo de Davao University and executives from a Chinese telecommunications company. Davao Oriental State University officials, led by DORSU President Dr. Roy Ponce, were also present.

Currently, department heads from the Provincial Government are the first participants in the program, with classes held every Saturday at DORSU over a 16-week period. Davao Oriental is now the third province in the region to implement this program, following Davao de Oro and Davao City. Through this initiative, Davao Oriental demonstrates its commitment to fostering international relations and enhancing local economic and tourism prospects.
