Governor Niño Uy Leads Inspection of Mainit Hot Spring Development in Cateel

Cateel, Davao Oriental – Governor Niño Uy spearheaded the inspection of the ongoing development at the Mainit Hot Spring in Cateel, marking a significant step in boosting tourism in the region.

Accompanied by Cateel Mayor Emilou Nuñez, officials from the Cateel Local Government Unit (LGU), and representatives from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), the governor personally reviewed the progress of the project, particularly Phase 1, which is set for inauguration.

The Mainit Hot Spring Development Project is divided into three phases. Phase 1, currently nearing completion, includes a scenic promenade and a therapeutic foot bath funded by the Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) Incentive Fund from the DILG, amounting to ₱9.5 million.

While Phase 1 is just the initial step, plans for Phases 2 and 3 are already being proposed, with visions of broader improvements to enhance the natural beauty and accessibility of the site. During the inspection, discussions were held on the subsequent phases, and efforts are underway to secure additional funding to ensure the project’s continuity.

Governor Uy emphasized the potential of the development to attract more tourists to Davao Oriental while maintaining a balance between tourism and sustainability.

“This is not just about creating a tourist site; it is an opportunity for the people of Cateel,” said Governor Uy. “Through this project, we aim to boost the local economy and provide employment opportunities.”

Currently, the eco-park is not yet open to the public. However, once completed, it is envisioned to become a prime destination in the province, showcasing a harmonious blend of tourism and sustainable development.

The Mainit Hot Spring stands as a testament to Davao Oriental’s commitment to eco-friendly tourism and economic progress, aiming to inspire similar initiatives across the nation.
