The Department of Health (DOH) is closely monitoring a suspected case of Monkeypox (Mpox) in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM). Health Secretary Ted Herbosa confirmed the development on Saturday, stating that the case involves a patient from Malabang, Lanao del Sur.
“We have a suspected case in BARMM, specifically in Lanao. But it is still under investigation, and we are awaiting confirmation of the test results,” Herbosa said.
Public Advisory from the Integrated Provincial Health Office
The Integrated Provincial Health Office of Lanao del Sur (IPHO-LDS) released a public advisory regarding the case. The patient, a resident of Barangay Masao, Malabang, is currently admitted at the Amai Pakpak Medical Center (APMC), and laboratory results are pending.
In response, the IPHO-LDS has activated a Code White Alert, mobilizing key health measures to address the situation.
Immediate Actions Taken
The following steps have been implemented to prevent the potential spread of Mpox:
- Reactivation of Disease Surveillance Units: Monitoring and reporting of cases have been intensified across the province.
- Task Force Mobilization: A dedicated task force has been reactivated to oversee containment efforts, including contact tracing and public awareness campaigns.
- Coordination with Local Government Units: Preventive measures and public health education are being rolled out in affected and nearby communities.
What is Mpox?
Mpox is a viral illness that spreads through close contact with infected individuals, animals, or contaminated objects. Common symptoms include fever, skin rashes or lesions, swollen lymph nodes, muscle aches, and fatigue.
