Davao City, Philippines — In a swift response to aid areas heavily impacted by Typhoon Kristine, the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) on Tuesday approved a Php 17.7 million financial assistance package for affected localities. The aid will benefit 19 municipalities, 10 cities, and seven provinces that declared a state of calamity following the typhoon’s devastation last month.
According to Local Finance Committee (LFC) Resolution 2020-01, the aid will be distributed based on specific rates: each municipality will receive Php 300,000, cities will obtain Php 500,000, and provinces will be allocated Php 1 million.
The list of municipalities set to receive Php 300,000 each includes Laurel, San Pascual, Lian, Lemery, Angoncillo, Ibaan, and Cuenca in Batangas; Mercedes in Camarines Norte; Los Baños in Laguna; Bulan and Irosin in Sorsogon; San Fernando in Masbate; Virac in Catanduanes; Sariaya, Mulanay, Tagkawayan, and General Luna in Quezon; Magpet in Cotabato; and Sta. Cruz in Laguna.
The 10 cities allocated Php 500,000 each are Calaca, Sto. Tomas, Tanauan, and Batangas in Batangas; Naga in Naga; Calbayog in Samar; Calamba, San Pedro, and Biñan in Laguna; and Dagupan in Pangasinan.
The seven provinces that will receive Php 1 million each include Batangas, Albay, Camarines Sur, Eastern Samar, Camarines Norte, Catanduanes, and Quezon.
This financial aid is part of Davao City’s continuing support for calamity-hit areas across the Philippines. In August 2024, the SP similarly approved a calamity assistance fund to support regions affected by Typhoon Carina. That assistance was delivered through the Davao City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, underscoring the city government’s commitment to aiding communities facing natural disasters.
The assistance fund aims to support ongoing relief and rehabilitation efforts and ensure affected municipalities, cities, and provinces have the resources needed to recover swiftly from the typhoon’s impact.
