Leon B. Postigo, Philippines – In celebration of the National Day of Charity, the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) of Liloy joined forces with the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Leon B. Postigo and the Bayside Multipurpose Cooperative to hold a tree-growing event on October 30, aiming to promote environmental awareness and boost reforestation efforts in the area.
The event, held at Barangay Bogabongan, drew 320 participants from various sectors, including CENRO Liloy personnel, the Philippine National Police (PNP), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), Philippine Coast Guard, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), and the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MDRRMC). Students from Bacungan National High School and officials from Barangay Bogabongan also joined the effort, demonstrating strong community commitment to environmental conservation.
The event began with a short program at the planting site, where local leaders spoke on the critical role of trees in combating climate change and protecting biodiversity. Municipal Mayor Hon. Ronie Jamora emphasized the lasting impact of the initiative, saying, “This is not just a planting activity; it is a commitment to a greener future for our children.”
During the event, participants planted a total of 900 Narra seedlings, symbolizing a step forward in protecting the natural environment of Leon B. Postigo. CENRO Liloy commended LGU Leon’s proactive approach and underscored the importance of community engagement in tackling environmental issues.
The tree-planting initiative ended with participants sharing their visions for a sustainable future, highlighting a shared commitment to environmental preservation.
