After a deadly clash that claimed the lives of 19 people, including several civilians, a ceasefire has been brokered between two armed groups in Barangay Kilangan, Pagalungan, Maguindanao del Sur. The firefight, which occurred on Wednesday afternoon, October 30, 2024, involved intense exchanges of gunfire between the group of Engr. Datu Alonto Sultan and the combined forces of Commander Ikot Dandua and Commander Bawsi, reportedly stemming from a land dispute.

Through coordinated efforts by authorities, an agreement has been reached to halt hostilities between the groups. As part of the ceasefire conditions, both sides are prohibited from carrying or using firearms, and no individuals are allowed to enter the area while investigations continue.
A coalition of leaders and officials visited the conflict site to oversee the peace agreement and ensure compliance. Among those present were Mr. Anwar “Young Fighter” Alamada, Director of PSRO and Chair of the AHJAG-MILF; Mr. Butch Malang, Chairman of CCCH-MILF and SGADA Administrator; Tugunan Mayor Abdullah P. Abas; PNP Major Kunakon, Chief of Pagalungan Municipal Police Station; Deputy Commander of the 6th Infantry Division General Lidasan; GPH CCCH Chair BGen Nasser Lidasan, PhD; 90th Infantry Battalion Commander Lt. Col. Gavilanes; Pagalungan Mayor Salik Mamasabulod; Vice Mayor Abdullah Mamasabulod; and Abu Saima Hussien, OIC Councilor of Pahamudin Municipality and CCCH-MILF member.
Other local leaders, including OIC Mayor Arnan “Nayang” Timan, Tugunan Councilor Hon. Rahma Guilman, Councilor Guiaria Ambiton, and Councilor Sabre Pandita, also participated in the peace talks to ensure the resolution’s longevity.
The situation is under ongoing investigation by local authorities as they seek a peaceful solution to the land dispute and continue to monitor compliance with the ceasefire agreement. The coordinated effort reflects a strong commitment from the government, MILF leaders, the Philippine National Police, the Armed Forces of the Philippines, and local government units to maintain peace in the region and prevent further violence.
