Mamasapano, Maguindanao del Sur – November 29, 2024
Government security forces recovered 61 loose firearms and apprehended 47 individuals during a joint law enforcement operation on Friday morning in Barangay Pimbalakan. The operation aimed to address ongoing violence between rival armed groups and ensure the safety of local communities.

The skirmishes between the groups of Badrudin Inda and Zainudin Kiaro, active in Barangays Pimbalakan and Tukanalipao, have caused fear and distress among residents despite multiple peace dialogues facilitated by local government units. Armed clashes have persisted, prompting civilians to call for urgent action from authorities.
Responding to these concerns, a coordinated effort involving the Philippine National Police (PNP), Barangay Officials, and the 601st Brigade was initiated to disarm these groups and protect the affected communities.
Col. Ricky P. Bunayog, Officer-in-Charge of the 601st Brigade, emphasized the importance of the operation in restoring order.
“The troops of 601Bde are supporting the PNP of Mamasapano in conducting law enforcement operations in response to the criminal activities committed by these lawless armed groups to fully implement the rule of law. We will not tolerate any individual or group who will violate the law of the land and human rights,” Col. Bunayog stated.
He also urged residents to report any criminal activities, assuring them of immediate action from authorities.
Maj. Gen. Antonio Nafarrete, Commander of the 6th Infantry Division (6ID) and Joint Task Force (JTF) Central, appealed for peaceful resolution of disputes, especially with the election period approaching.
“Continued violence and unrest will not be tolerated. As directed by our Commander-in-Chief, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., for an orderly and peaceful election, we will persist in joint law enforcement operations to remove all illegal and loose firearms,” Maj. Gen. Nafarrete said.
He warned that further conflicts would compel the 6ID and PNP to escalate operations, including confiscation of weapons and filing criminal charges against violators.
“We remain committed to working with all stakeholders to achieve lasting peace and stability in the region. Those who fail to heed this call for peace will face the full force of the law,” he added.
The successful operation is a step toward stabilizing Mamasapano, but authorities stress that sustained cooperation from the public and local leaders is essential for lasting peace.
