MARAWI CITY – Two of three siblings tragically drowned in Lake Lanao in Barangay Olowa Ambolong, Marawi City, yesterday morning. Despite immediate efforts by local residents to rescue the children, only their brother survived the incident.
According to the official update from the Marawi City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MCDRRMO), the three siblings, all students of Angoyao Central Elementary School, went swimming in the lake after their morning classes.
Teachers reported that the children did not return to their classrooms after their morning session, and the school was shocked to learn of the tragic accident that had befallen the young students.
Rescue teams from MCDRRMO responded swiftly, rushing the siblings to Amai Pakpak Medical Center. However, the two girls were declared dead on arrival, while their brother survived the ordeal.
The bodies of the two girls were returned to their province for burial. In the aftermath of the incident, concerned parents urged their children to avoid swimming in the lake to prevent further accidents.
This tragedy has left the community in mourning, with local authorities reminding residents to stay vigilant and ensure the safety of children in the area.
