Fragmentation Grenade Attack Injures Policeman in Isabela City, Basilan

ISABELA CITY, Basilan – A bomber threw a fragmentation grenade at a roadside police detachment in Barangay Sunrise late Sunday, September 29, injuring a policeman and creating a climate of fear among nearby residents.

According to a report submitted to Brig. Gen. Prexy Tanggawohn, director of the Police Regional Office-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region, Patrolman Aldimar Salahuddin was on duty when he sustained shrapnel wounds to multiple parts of his body due to the explosion.

Basilan Governor Hadjiman Salliman condemned the attack and announced a reward for any information leading to the arrest of those responsible. “This is an act we will not tolerate. We are fully supporting the police in their investigation of this grenade attack,” said Salliman, who also chairs the Basilan Provincial Peace and Order Council.

Local rumors in Isabela City suggest that two men may have been involved in the attack. One reportedly acted as a lookout while the other threw the grenade near the police checkpoint at an intersection in Barangay Sunrise. The suspects fled the scene immediately after the explosion.

Brig. Gen. Alvin Luzon, commander of the Army’s 101st Brigade in Basilan, stated that their intelligence unit is actively gathering information to help resolve the incident. “We are committed to ensuring the safety of our communities and will do everything we can to bring the perpetrators to justice,” Luzon added.

The attack has heightened tensions in Isabela City, a vital port city in Basilan, prompting local authorities to enhance security measures and reassure residents of their safety. The investigation is ongoing, with law enforcement urging anyone with information to come forward.
