2nd Mechanized Infantry Battalion Achieves Success in Balik-Baril Program: Turnover of Loose Firearms

DATU ANGGAL MIDTIMBANG, Maguindanao Del Sur – The 2nd Mechanized Infantry (Makasag) Battalion, under the leadership of LTC Jerome D. Peñalosa ARM (GSC) PA, has made significant strides in its peace-building initiatives through the Balik-Baril Program. This initiative aims to reduce the proliferation of loose firearms within communities, thereby enhancing security and fostering cooperation.

In a recent handover ceremony held at the Municipal Gymnasium of Datu Anggal Midtimbang, Vice Mayor Jomar U. Midtimbang led the turnover of seven loose firearms, alongside the barangay chairpersons from the municipality. This event underscores the community’s commitment to supporting peace efforts in the region.

The firearms surrendered during the ceremony included:

  • Brgy. Adaon: One homemade RPG launcher
  • Brgy. Brar: One homemade 12-gauge shotgun
  • Brgy. Mapayag: One homemade RPG launcher
  • Brgy. Midtimbang: One M79 grenade launcher
  • Brgy. Nunangan: One homemade 60mm mortar tube with a base plate
  • Brgy. Tugal: One homemade M79 grenade launcher
  • Brgy. Tulunan: One homemade 7.62mm bolt-action rifle

These contributions highlight the local communities’ dedication to supporting the government’s disarmament and peace-building efforts. By voluntarily surrendering these firearms, the barangays are actively participating in initiatives to prevent violence and enhance the safety of residents. Their involvement in the Balik-Baril Program reflects a collective commitment to achieving lasting peace in their respective areas.

LTC Peñalosa commended the efforts of the barangays, stressing the importance of continued cooperation between military forces and local communities. He emphasized that the 2nd Mechanized Infantry Battalion is steadfast in its commitment to the Balik-Baril Program, recognizing its crucial role in maintaining security and stability in the region.
