Sarangani, Philippines — On October 10, 2024, two former members of the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) voluntarily surrendered to authorities in Purok San Roque, Barangay Poblacion, Malapatan, Sarangani Province. The former rebels, identified as alias “Ed,” 37, and alias “Erna,” 38, both farmers from Sitio Sangkumang, Kitayo, Jose Abad Santos, Davao Occidental, cited the government’s effective measures in curbing insurgency as a key factor in their decision to surrender.
The successful surrender operation was a result of the combined efforts of the 1st Sarangani Provincial Mobile Force Company (SPMFC), Regional Intelligence Unit (RIU) 12, Regional Intelligence Division (RID) 12, Sarangani Police Provincial Office (SPPO) Provincial Intelligence Unit (PIU), Malapatan Municipal Police Station (MPS), Alpha Company 73rd Infantry Battalion (IB) Philippine Army, Regional Special Operations Group (RSOG) 12, and the Maritime Police Station (MARPSTA). The operation was conducted under the supervision of Police Colonel Deanry R. Francisco, the Provincial Director.
During their surrender, the former rebels turned over one homemade shotgun with two pieces of ammunition and one MK2 fragmentation grenade. These items, along with the surrenderers, are now under the custody of the 1st SPMFC in Kawas, Alabel, Sarangani Province, for documentation and proper disposition.
The surrender of “Ed” and “Erna” is a testament to the government’s ongoing success in addressing insurgency issues and promoting peace and order in the region. This development comes as part of broader efforts to encourage former rebels to return to the fold of the law and integrate back into society, underscoring the effectiveness of collaborative efforts between various law enforcement and military units.
