Peace and Development in Ligawasan Discussed in Meeting Led by General Gumiran and Mayor Mama, Joined by MP Abas and Councilor Jonnie Mantol

Ligawasan, BARMM—October 2024 – The peace and order situation in Ligawasan, SGA-BARMM, was the primary focus of a meeting between the 602nd Brigade, led by Brigadier General Donald Gumiran, and the local government, headed by Mayor Salik P. Mamasabulod. The meeting was also attended by Member of Parliament (MP) Akmad “Jack” Abas Alhaj and other key officials.

Mayor Mamasabulod and MP Abas vowed to take all necessary steps to address the rising incidents of shootings in the area. “We will do everything to stop the violence and ensure the safety of our community,” Mayor Mama stated during the discussion.

General Gumiran emphasized the role of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) in maintaining peace in their area of responsibility. He noted that the AFP is prepared to intervene should the situation escalate.

Another critical issue raised during the meeting was the frequent flooding caused by the overflow of the Rio Grande de Mindanao. This has submerged several homes in Ligawasan, causing significant disruptions to the residents.

Mayor Mamasabulod called for immediate action on the river control project, stressing the importance of this measure to mitigate the sudden overflow of water from the Pulangi River. He suggested prioritizing river control and flood management before proceeding with the construction of a protective dike.

The mayor’s proposal received full support from MP Abas and General Gumiran, who agreed that effective flood control is essential to the long-term safety and development of Ligawasan.

Also present at the meeting were Pagalungan Mayor Salik Mamasabulod, Vice Mayor Abdilah G. Mamasabulod, Major Roldan Bacagan of the 90th Infantry Battalion, Captain Deso, Datu Akmad Mamamasabulod, Commander Bots Sanday, Municipal Councilor Datu Edu Mamasabulod Alhaj, and Barangay Captain Satar Abdulrahman.

The meeting highlighted the commitment of both the military and local government to ensuring peace, security, and sustainable development in Ligawasan amidst the ongoing challenges in the region.
