PCG Surigao Issues Warning as Surigao del Norte and Dinagat Islands Now Under Signal No. 1

Surigao City, October 21, 2024 – The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) in Surigao has issued an advisory following the declaration of Signal Number 1 over Surigao del Norte and Dinagat Islands due to Tropical Depression Kristine. The provinces are part of the Caraga Region.

Residents in coastal areas and flood-prone locations are urged to take precautions and prepare for the possibility of strong winds, heavy rains, and flooding. The PCG-Surigao specifically warned fishermen and owners of small boats not to venture out to sea due to the risk of encountering large waves.

In its announcement, the PCG stated that its personnel are on high alert and closely monitoring the situation. The “No Sailing Policy” will be enforced at any moment, depending on advisories from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) and higher authorities.

As of now, Surigao City is experiencing overcast skies with moderate winds, but no severe weather has been reported yet.
