OVP Western Mindanao Opens New Satellite Office Despite Budget Cuts, Continues Vital Services

Zamboanga City – October 8, 2024 – The Office of the Vice President (OVP) Western Mindanao Satellite Office opened its new location today at Veterans Avenue Extension, Barangay Tetuan, Zamboanga City, signaling a commitment to continued public service despite facing recent budget cuts.

The new office aims to make the OVP’s services more accessible to the residents of Western Mindanao, particularly those who need assistance through various programs. In a time of tighter budgets and financial constraints, the OVP has managed to expand its reach, bringing crucial support to more Filipinos in the region.

Highlighting the office opening was the awarding of financial assistance through the Mag Negosyo Ta ‘Day (MTD) program. A total of Php 285,000 was distributed to beneficiaries to help them establish or grow their small businesses. Among the recipients was the Bamboo Alicia Coconut Farmers’ Marketing Cooperative (KACOFARMCO), which received Php 150,000. Additionally, nine individuals were granted Php 15,000 each to support their enterprises, ranging from variety stores, carinderias, and baking businesses to slipper-making and fireplace-making.

This achievement is particularly noteworthy given the recent budget cuts that the OVP has faced. Despite a reduced operating budget, the office has continued to prioritize programs that directly impact the lives of ordinary Filipinos, especially in underserved regions like Western Mindanao.

“The opening of this new office, even with financial constraints, reflects our dedication to serve Filipinos more effectively,” said a spokesperson from the OVP. “Our mission is to provide help and improve livelihoods for as many as we can, despite the challenges we face.”

The launch of the new office also brings the OVP’s services closer to communities that need it most, ensuring that more people have direct access to assistance programs without the burden of traveling long distances. The office will continue to support initiatives that promote entrepreneurship, small businesses, and economic empowerment, further strengthening the social fabric of the region.

Through continued partnerships with local communities and beneficiaries, the OVP remains focused on providing meaningful and impactful assistance, proving that, even with limited resources, dedicated service to the public remains a priority.

The office’s new slogan, “Everything — for God, country, and every Filipino family,” was echoed throughout the ceremony, underscoring the OVP’s commitment to uplifting the lives of all Filipinos, regardless of budgetary constraints.
