Northern Mindanao ‘Peaceful’ During 2025 Election COC Filing, Says Police

Cagayan de Oro City, October 8, 2024 – The peace and order situation in Northern Mindanao remained “generally peaceful” during the week-long filing of Certificates of Candidacy (COC) for the 2025 Midterm Elections, according to PBGEN Jaysen C. De Guzman, Acting Regional Director of Police Regional Office 10 (PRO10).

As of 4:00 PM on October 8, PRO10 reported zero incidents related to the COC filing, which began on October 1. The peaceful atmosphere was maintained through the deployment of 1,152 police officers across the region, including 384 personnel assigned to police assistance desks (PADs) and 768 members of Quick Reaction Teams (QRTs).

PRO10 implemented a series of security measures, including heightened intelligence monitoring, increased police visibility, and random checkpoint operations, ensuring public safety and the smooth conduct of the election-related activities.

“I am grateful that no incidents occurred during the filing of Certificates of Candidacy. However, we must not become complacent,” said PBGEN De Guzman. “We will intensify our proactive measures to ensure that no untoward incidents happen in Region 10 moving forward.”

De Guzman reiterated that PRO10 remains ready and prepared to respond to any incidents that may arise as the election season progresses, emphasizing the importance of continued vigilance beyond the conclusion of the COC filing period.
