Shariff Aguak, October 9 – Mayor Datu Akmad “Mitra” B. Ampatuan has strongly condemned the violent incident that took place earlier today outside the Municipal Hall of Shariff Aguak during the final day of the filing of Certificates of Candidacy (COC) for the 2025 elections. The altercation caused fear among government employees and nearby residents and disrupted traffic along the national highway.
The mayor expressed deep disappointment over the gunfire that erupted during what was expected to be a peaceful filing of candidacies. Mayor Ampatuan emphasized that he had hoped for a calm and orderly process but noted that some supporters, driven by narrow-mindedness, disregarded the safety and well-being of others.
Mayor Ampatuan reiterated his respect for all candidates running in the upcoming elections, particularly those vying for the governorship of Maguindanao del Sur. He clarified that he had no intention of causing trouble and is focused solely on the welfare of the people of Shariff Aguak.
The mayor expressed his apologies for the disturbance, acknowledging that the situation was beyond his control and was ultimately in the hands of a higher power. Despite the incident, Mayor Ampatuan affirmed that he remains supportive of the goals of the Bangsamoro Government for the betterment of the community.
He concluded his statement with a call for unity and lasting peace, hoping that all citizens will work together to achieve these shared aspirations.
