San Miguel, Zamboanga del Sur – October 18, 2024
A member of the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) voluntarily surrendered to authorities in Barangay Dumalian, San Miguel, Zamboanga del Sur, as part of ongoing efforts to address insurgency in the region.
The individual, identified by Police Captain Louis F. Arquiza, Acting Chief of Police of the San Miguel Municipal Police Station, as alias “Toto,” is a 36-year-old resident of Purok 6, Barangay Dumalian. According to police reports, Toto was a member of the HOM/BRC MRGU under Guerrilla Front KARA of the Western Mindanao Regional Party Committee (WMRPC) and was also part of the Salabukan No’k Gtaw Subanen, an underground revolutionary organization associated with the Lumad Revolutionary Organization (ROL) of the Regional Urban Committee (RUC), WMRPC.
Toto’s surrender is a significant development in the government’s ongoing campaign against insurgency. Under President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s administration, the government continues to urge remaining CTG members and supporters to return to the fold of the law. The Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP), a key initiative, offers former rebels a chance to reintegrate into society and contribute to nation-building efforts.
The Philippine National Police (PNP) has reiterated its call for other CTG members to take advantage of the government’s reintegration program, which aims to provide support for those who choose to abandon their involvement in terrorist activities and work towards a peaceful, unified nation.
Through sustained efforts like E-CLIP, the government is hopeful that more individuals will follow Toto’s lead in embracing the path toward peace and progress for a “Bagong Pilipinas.”
