CAMP SIONGCO, Awang, DOS, Maguindanao del Norte – Government troops successfully thwarted a planned act of violence by lawless elements after discovering abandoned explosives and other combat equipment during intensified military operations in Barangay Tee, Datu Salibo, Maguindanao del Sur, yesterday, August 11, 2024.
According to the soldiers from Combined Arms Team 99 of the 1st Brigade Combat Team (CAT99 1BCT), they spotted two individuals who quickly fled upon seeing the military presence. The troops immediately proceeded to the location where the individuals were seen, leading to the discovery of terrorist equipment such as anti-personnel mines/IEDs buried under sacks.
The recovered explosives included: one 105mm high explosive projectile, one 81mm high explosive cartridge, one 81mm high explosive without fuze and with trail fin, three grenades, three kilograms of SI-JET, a hand pump (filled with high explosives), one kilogram of black powder, and various components and materials for making improvised explosive devices.
Major General Antonio G. Nafarrete, Commander of the 6th Infantry Division and Joint Task Force-Central, expressed his gratitude to the CAT99 troops for the successful discovery of the combat equipment. “The swift response of government troops against those with malicious intentions is crucial in preventing their plans to spread terrorism. This is vital in maintaining peace and order in our communities,” stated the Division Commander.
This successful operation underscores the military’s ongoing efforts to maintain peace and security in the region.
