MENRE and CSC Lead Tree-Growing Event for 124th PCSA, Plant 1,500 Seedlings

Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao del Norte – In a significant move towards environmental conservation and sustainability, the Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources, and Energy (MENRE) collaborated with the Civil Service Commission (CSC) for BARMM to host a “tree-growing for a cause” event at Sitio Katigisan, Barangay Labungan, Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao del Norte on September 19. This event was part of the 124th Philippine CSC Anniversary celebration, themed “Malasakit sa Kalikasan, Malasakit sa Lingkod Bayani.”

This nationwide tree-growing activity not only emphasizes environmental conservation but also honors those who have given their lives in service, while raising funds for the Pamanang Lingkod Bayani program of the Civil Service Commission.

Participants from various ministries, offices, agencies, local government units (LGUs), state universities, uniformed and non-uniformed personnel, local communities, and volunteers planted 1,500 seedlings of Mahogany, Narra, and Antipolo tree species in a designated area at Kilometer 14 of the barangay. These seedlings are expected to help mitigate the effects of climate change and improve air quality in the region.

In his opening message, Maguindanao Provincial ENRE Officer Lauban S. Abdul emphasized the role of everyone as the Al-Khalifa (steward) of the environment. He reiterated the importance of nurturing the trees and their significance in people’s lives.

CSC for BARMM Regional Director Lida C. Ayon expressed her gratitude for the partnership between BARMM MENRE and CSC, acknowledging MENRE’s crucial role in this endeavor. “As we take part in this tree-growing activity, let us do so with a sense of purpose and understanding. By planting trees, we are sowing the seeds of a better future… let us make today’s tree-planting a lasting legacy for the generations to come,” she said.

This collaborative effort underscores the importance of environmental stewardship and community involvement in creating a sustainable future.
