A 44-year-old man was arrested after being caught in possession of illegal drugs during a buy-bust operation conducted by the Philippine National Police (PNP) on the evening of September 24, 2024.
The suspect, identified only by the alias “Roy-roy,” is an electrician and resident of the city. Police Colonel Nicomedes P. Olaivar Jr., City Director of the General Santos City Police Office (GSCPO), confirmed the arrest and provided details of the operation.
According to PCol. Olaivar Jr., the operation took place at around 11:47 PM and was executed by a joint task force composed of members from Police Station 9, the Criminal Investigation Unit (CIU), City Mobile Force Company (CMFC-GSCPO), the Regional Intelligence Unit (RIU-12), and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).
Authorities seized a total of 77.8 grams of suspected shabu (methamphetamine) from the suspect, packed in one large and six small plastic sachets. The drugs have an estimated street value of PHP 529,040. Along with the illegal substances, law enforcement officers also recovered a PHP 1,000 bill used as buy-bust money, along with other non-drug items.
The suspect will face charges for violating Sections 5 and 11 of Article II of Republic Act 9165, also known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
PCol. Olaivar Jr. emphasized that the General Santos City Police remains relentless in its crackdown on illegal drugs and criminal activities. “Our continuous operations are aimed at apprehending individuals involved in drug use, sale, and those who provide protection to the illegal drug trade,” he said.
This successful operation is part of the broader efforts of the General Santos City Police to combat the growing issues of illegal drugs and other criminal activities in the city, ensuring the safety and well-being of its residents.
