Zamboanga City – Law enforcement authorities have apprehended a member of the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) in an intelligence-driven operation, police reported on Friday, September 13, 2024.
The suspect, identified as Murasidul Abdurahman, 39, a resident of Zamboanga City, was arrested around 6:45 PM on Wednesday, September 11, at Country Home in Ayala village, located 16.5 kilometers west of the city.
Abdurahman was taken into custody based on a standing warrant of arrest for the crime of kidnapping with ransom, issued by a court in Bongao, Tawi-Tawi, on September 19, 2019. The warrant carries no recommended bail.
Police revealed that Abdurahman was implicated in the kidnapping of Italian national Rolando del Rochio on October 7, 2015, in Dipolog City, Zamboanga del Norte, and Joshua Bani, the son of a businessman, on June 5, 2014, in Bongao, Tawi-Tawi. He is known to be a follower of the late ASG sub-leader Yasser Igasan.
The arrest was executed by joint forces from the police and the coast guard, showcasing the effective collaboration between different law enforcement agencies in combating terrorism and ensuring public safety.
