Davao City — In a move aimed at reinforcing its internal cleansing efforts, the Police Regional Office 11 (PRO 11) conducted a random drug test at the Davao Oriental Police Provincial Office (DOPPO) as part of the Philippine National Police’s ongoing drive to ensure a disciplined, drug-free police force.

However, the results of the initiative dealt a blow to the organization’s integrity when three police personnel tested positive for methamphetamine hydrochloride, commonly known as shabu. The names of the individuals have not been disclosed, but PRO 11 confirmed that they are now facing appropriate administrative proceedings in line with PNP policies.

While the random drug testing underscores the PNP’s commitment to transparency and accountability, the positive results inevitably raise concerns about the credibility of the very institution sworn to uphold the law.

Police Brigadier General Leon Victor Z. Rosete, Regional Director of PRO 11, stressed the importance of the internal cleansing program, saying:
“This is a reminder that internal cleansing is a shared responsibility. Our goal is not just to detect violations, but to help our personnel stay on the right track. We continue to uphold the highest standards of service while also providing opportunities for growth within our ranks.”

Despite these reassurances, the discovery of drug use within the ranks has cast a shadow over the organization’s commitment to its core values of professionalism and integrity. Public trust, a cornerstone of effective policing, now faces another challenge as the community looks for decisive action against those involved.

PRO 11 has reiterated its resolve to maintain accountability and discipline, vowing to continue its efforts in support of the PNP’s mission to serve and protect the community. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the need for constant vigilance, both within the force and among the communities they are sworn to protect.
