Basilan, Philippines — Governor Jim Salliman-Hataman led provincial government officials and employees in the first flag-raising ceremony of the year on Monday, January 6. The event marked not only the start of the work year but also celebrated a significant achievement for the province.
During the program that followed the ceremony, Governor Salliman presented the plaque for the Gawad Kalasag Seal of Excellence Beyond Compliant awarded to the Provincial Government of Basilan. The province achieved a remarkable rating of 2.95 in the 24th Gawad Kalasag Seal for Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Councils and Offices (LDRRMCOs) category for Calendar Year 2024.
The recognition reflects Basilan’s outstanding efforts in exceeding the standards set for the establishment and functionality of LDRRMCOs, as mandated by the Philippines Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Act of 2010. This milestone underscores the province’s commitment to disaster preparedness and risk management.
In his address, Governor Salliman expressed heartfelt gratitude to the employees and officials for their unwavering dedication to public service. He emphasized that such recognition was a testament to the collective efforts of the provincial government under his administration, which he has helmed since 2016.
“Public service has always been the cornerstone of our administration’s legacy. From security and agriculture to tourism, Basilan has witnessed significant socio-economic advancements,” Salliman stated. “The momentum of inclusive progress must be sustained, and I appeal for your continued support with barely six months left in my term.”
