LEON B. POSTIGO, Zamboanga del Norte – In a decisive operation conducted on December 20, 2024, law enforcement authorities confiscated smuggled cigarettes valued at Php2,108,640 in Barangay Bogabongan, Leon B. Postigo. The operation also led to the arrest of two suspects allegedly involved in the smuggling activity.
Police Major Anjelo AM D. Acuzar, Acting Chief of Police of the Leon B. Postigo Municipal Police Station, identified the suspects as alias “Joe,” a 29-year-old male resident of San Jose Gusu, Zamboanga City, and alias “Jaf,” a resident of Barangay Stanvac Campo Islam, Calarian, Zamboanga City.
The operation was carried out by the Leon B. Postigo Municipal Police Station in coordination with the Zamboanga del Norte Provincial Intelligence Unit. Authorities successfully intercepted and seized a significant quantity of contraband during the raid.
Among the confiscated items were 220 reams of Fort White cigarettes, 935 reams of Farstar Green cigarettes, 535 reams of Astro Red cigarettes, and two reams of B & R cigarettes, all of which were estimated to have a market value of Php2,108,640.
The Philippine National Police (PNP) has intensified its campaign against smuggling activities in the region. Officials urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to help maintain peace and order in their communities.
The arrested suspects are now in police custody and are expected to face charges related to smuggling under applicable laws.
