Marogong, Lanao del Sur – Two Maranao men were killed, and three others injured in an ambush in Barangay Paigoay, a remote area in Marogong, Lanao del Sur, on Saturday afternoon, December 7, 2024.
Brig. Gen. Romeo Juan Macapaz, director of the Police Regional Office-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region, confirmed the deaths of retired police officer Solaiman Alibasa and his companion, Hadji Asrap Sandab, in the attack.
According to the Marogong Municipal Police Station, the victims were traveling in a red Toyota Innova with three other companions when armed men opened fire using assault rifles from a vantage point along the highway in Barangay Paigoay. The group was reportedly en route to Malabang, Lanao del Sur, when the ambush occurred.
The three other passengers, identified as Sanaoray Alibasa, Sarpia Mangayao, and another retired police officer, Ramil Bao, sustained injuries. Emergency responders and local police rushed them to Serapio Montañer Hospital for immediate medical attention.
In response to the incident, Brig. Gen. Macapaz directed the Lanao del Sur Provincial Police Office to coordinate with local government officials in identifying the perpetrators and filing the appropriate charges against them.
As investigations continue, authorities are also working closely with community leaders to gather information that could lead to the swift resolution of the case.
