Panabo City, Davao del Norte – December 6, 2024
Panabo City Mayor Jose E. Relampagos released an official statement regarding the recent operation led by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) against an illegal Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator (POGO) hub in Barangay Manay. The raid, which resulted in multiple arrests, revealed that the illegal business had been operating for four months within the city.
Mayor Relampagos described the operation as a critical step in addressing illegal activities linked to online gaming and offshore gambling operations. He emphasized the dangers associated with POGO hubs, including violations of financial and labor laws, and, in some cases, connections to organized crime.
A Clear Message Against Illegal Operations
“This operation, conducted by the NBI in close coordination with our barangay captains in Manay and New Malitbog, is a vital move to curb illegal activities within our community,” Mayor Relampagos stated. “POGO operations violate local laws and jeopardize the safety and well-being of our citizens.”
The raid uncovered foreign nationals working within the illegal facility, highlighting the scale and seriousness of the issue. The mayor called for swift and decisive action to eliminate potential threats and restore peace and order in the affected neighborhoods.
Gratitude to Law Enforcement
Mayor Relampagos extended his gratitude to the NBI, Philippine National Police (PNP), and local barangay officials for their professionalism and dedication to upholding justice. “Your hard work strengthens our city and ensures a safer environment for everyone,” he said.
Commitment to Vigilance
As the city moves forward, the mayor urged residents and officials to remain vigilant in protecting the integrity of the community. “Panabo must continue to be a place where law-abiding citizens thrive and businesses operate with integrity,” Mayor Relampagos concluded.
The operation is part of ongoing efforts to crack down on illegal gambling activities in the Philippines. The NBI vowed to intensify its investigations and ensure that those responsible are held accountable.
