Pualas, Lanao del Sur — On November 30, 2024, a decades-long family feud, or “rido,” came to a peaceful conclusion in a momentous settlement ceremony held in Barangay Maligo, Pualas, Lanao del Sur. The event marked a significant step toward peace and reconciliation in the province.
The settlement was made possible through the concerted efforts of key local leaders and stakeholders. Provincial Director PCOL Robert S. Daculan of the Lanao del Sur Provincial Police Office (LDS PPO) and PLTCOL Alpaher Haber, Force Commander of the 2nd Provincial Mobile Force Company, represented the police force in witnessing the agreement.
The feud, involving the Polayogan Tanog family and the Tanog and Balindong families, was resolved through the leadership of Hon. Alinader M. Dagar, Mayor of Malabang Municipality, and Hon. Dialaloden Tanog, Vice Mayor of Pualas Municipality. The negotiations were supported by religious and traditional leaders, local government units, and various stakeholders from the municipalities of Malabang, Pualas, and Picong.
Prominent figures present included Basher Ibrahim, Regional Director of DPWH R12; Taha Tanjie Macapodi, 2nd District Board Member; LTCOL Jo Anthony Lee C. Lalas, Battalion Commander of the 51st Infantry Battalion, 1st Infantry Division, Philippine Army; and Casser Amerol of Pualas COMELEC. Former officials, including Cabib Tanog, Amen Balindong, and Tony Tanog, also participated.
Through open dialogue and negotiation, both families reached an agreement to end their hostilities and embrace reconciliation. The settlement was solidified with the signing of a peace agreement, symbolizing their commitment to unity and harmony.
This historic event underscores the importance of collaboration between government, traditional leadership, and communities in resolving conflicts and fostering a culture of peace. The peaceful resolution is expected to contribute to stability and development in Lanao del Sur.
