TAGUM CITY, Davao del Norte — Three individuals were injured after an explosion triggered a fire at a butane refilling station in Purok Maharlika, Barangay Cuambogan, Tagum City, at around 3:25 p.m. on Wednesday, November 4, 2026.

The incident prompted an immediate response from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) and barangay emergency responders, as flames engulfed part of the facility and raised concerns over the presence of highly flammable liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) fumes in the surrounding area.

The fire reached the first alarm, prompting the deployment of the BFP’s Special Rescue Force (SRF) to assist in emergency response operations and address the additional risks posed by combustible gas in the vicinity.

Firefighters and other responders managed to bring the blaze under control at approximately 3:41 p.m., just 16 minutes after the reported incident. Full extinguishment was declared at around 3:50 p.m.

Initial reports placed the affected area at approximately 150 square meters. However, authorities have yet to release a detailed assessment of the extent of the damage to the facility and its equipment.

The three injured individuals were reported in connection with the explosion and fire. Further details about their identities, the severity of their injuries, and whether they were workers at the facility have not yet been established in the available reports.

Investigators are continuing to determine what caused the explosion and subsequent fire. Authorities have not yet identified whether the incident resulted from an LPG leak, equipment malfunction, operational error, or another factor.

The incident underscores the serious safety risks associated with facilities handling and refilling flammable gases, where even a suspected gas leak can create hazardous conditions for workers, nearby residents, and emergency responders.

Authorities are expected to establish the circumstances surrounding the explosion as the investigation progresses.
