San Martin, Villanueva, Misamis Oriental — A 16-year-old male was apprehended by the Police Regional Office 10 (PRO10) during a checkpoint operation on the morning of November 28, 2024. The suspect was found in possession of 289 packs of smuggled cigarettes, valued at PhP11,560.
The operation, led by the 1st Provincial Mobile Force Company (PMFC) of the Misamis Oriental Provincial Police Office (MISOR PPO), flagged down the minor who was driving a black Bajaj Kawasaki motorcycle without wearing a helmet. Upon inspection, the suspect failed to provide any documents and was found transporting contraband cigarettes.
Among the confiscated items were 89 packs of Cannon, 150 packs of Delta, 30 packs of Modern, 20 packs of Nelsons, and the motorcycle, which bore plate number 090806.
The minor is currently under the custody of the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO) for a diversion program, as mandated by juvenile justice laws. The seized cigarettes and motorcycle will be turned over to the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in Cagayan de Oro City for appropriate action.
PBGEN Jaysen C. De Guzman, Regional Director of PRO10, reaffirmed the police force’s dedication to combating illegal activities, particularly smuggling.
“This incident highlights our proactive measures to combat smuggling and other illegal activities that undermine the law and disrupt legitimate trade. PRO10 remains vigilant and resolute in its mission to safeguard the region,” he said.
PRO10 also urged the public to report any suspicious activities to their nearest police station or through their hotlines to aid in maintaining peace and order in the region.
This recent apprehension reflects PRO10’s continued efforts to uphold law and order and protect the local economy from the adverse effects of smuggling.
