LANAO DEL SUR, Philippines — The Gender and Development Office (GAD), under the supervision of Provincial Gender and Development (PGAD) focal person Alliah Kibad Lucman, has embarked on an initiative to enhance the operations of Violence Against Women and Children (VAWC) desks in 22 police stations across the province. The distribution of steel cabinets, chairs, and two-way radios commenced on November 25, 2024, and is set to conclude on November 28, 2024.
This project forms part of the province’s ongoing efforts to bolster the capacity of local law enforcement in addressing gender-based violence, particularly against women and children. By equipping VAWC desks with essential tools, the initiative seeks to improve operational efficiency and provide better support to survivors.
Prior to the distribution, the PGAD team, accompanied by Cpt. Esnairah Lucman and her group, visited various police stations to assess their needs. The team also paid a courtesy visit to PCol. Robert Daculan, highlighting the collaborative effort between the provincial government and law enforcement in addressing these critical issues.
Governor Mamintal “Bombit” Alonto Adiong Jr. expressed his full support for the initiative, emphasizing the significance of providing adequate resources to police stations. “Strengthening the capacity of our VAWC desks is a vital step in ensuring the safety and well-being of our women and children,” he stated.
The distribution initiative aligns with the government’s broader commitment to gender and development, underscoring the importance of creating safe spaces and effective mechanisms for responding to cases of violence against women and children.
With the completion of this project, Lanao del Sur hopes to set an example for other provinces in prioritizing the fight against gender-based violence and ensuring the dignity and protection of all citizens.
