DATU PIANG, Maguindanao del Sur — A man was killed in a shooting allegedly carried out by unidentified motorcycle-riding gunmen in Barangay Kanguan, Datu Piang, Maguindanao del Sur, at around 1:30 p.m. on October 17, 2026, prompting police to intensify their investigation into the killing.
The victim was identified as Fahad S. Datuan, an unemployed married man of legal age and a resident of Sitio Tuway, Barangay Tugal, Kadayangan, Special Geographic Area (SGA), Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
Based on the initial investigation of the Datu Piang Municipal Police Station (MPS), Datuan was riding a white Honda Click motorcycle and heading toward the national highway in Barangay Kanguan when he was allegedly followed by unidentified suspects riding another motorcycle.
Upon reaching the area where the shooting occurred, the suspects reportedly opened fire on Datuan using a firearm of undetermined type and caliber before fleeing toward an unknown direction.
Police personnel immediately responded after receiving a call from a concerned citizen at approximately 1:50 p.m., around 20 minutes after the reported shooting.
Datuan was rushed to a clinic for emergency medical treatment. However, the attending physician declared him dead on arrival, confirming that he had succumbed to his injuries.
Authorities subsequently conducted a crime scene investigation and coordinated with the Maguindanao del Sur Police Forensic Unit to process the scene and gather possible evidence. Despite the forensic examination, investigators reported that no spent cartridge cases were recovered from the area.
The Datu Piang MPS also coordinated with the victim’s family to facilitate the proper retrieval of his remains.
Meanwhile, police investigators continued gathering information and pursuing leads to establish the identities and whereabouts of the suspects. Authorities are also working to determine the motive behind the killing, which remains unclear as of the latest available information.
The investigation remains ongoing as police seek to identify and apprehend those responsible for the fatal shooting.
Authorities have yet to announce any arrests in connection with the incident.
