IMPASUG-ONG, Bukidnon — Motorists traveling along Sayre Highway are advised to prepare for a new traffic management scheme at Atugan Bridge in Impasug-ong, Bukidnon, starting October 13, 2026, following a clarification issued by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Bukidnon 1st District Engineering Office.

In its updated travel advisory, the DPWH clarified that the previously announced traffic arrangement will take effect on October 13, not October 9, 2026, correcting the implementation date stated in the earlier notice.

The traffic restrictions are part of ongoing efforts to maintain public safety and keep the bridge accessible while awaiting repair. The new arrangement will remain in effect until further notice.

One-Lane, Stop-and-Go System to Be Implemented

Beginning October 13, traffic at Atugan Bridge will be restricted to a single lane. Vehicles traveling in opposite directions will take turns crossing under a stop-and-go traffic management system.

The arrangement is expected to require motorists to wait for their turn before proceeding across the bridge. Drivers should anticipate possible delays, particularly during periods of heavy traffic, and allow additional travel time when passing through the area.

Motorists are urged to remain alert and avoid attempting to cross when directed to stop by traffic personnel.

Old Sayre Highway Bypass Open to Light Vehicles Only

As an alternative to help avoid potential congestion and delays at Atugan Bridge, motorists may use the Impasug-ong–Patulangan Bypass Road, also known as the Old Sayre Highway.

However, the DPWH emphasized that the alternative route is limited to light vehicles because of its winding sections and the condition of the existing bridge along the bypass.

Drivers of heavy vehicles should take note of this restriction and avoid using the alternative route unless otherwise authorized by the appropriate authorities. Motorists should also assess road conditions and choose their routes accordingly.

DPWH to Install Warning Signs and Deploy Traffic Personnel

To support the implementation of the new traffic scheme, the DPWH Bukidnon 1st District Engineering Office will install the necessary warning signs, traffic control devices and barricades in the affected area.

Traffic personnel will also be deployed to help regulate vehicle movement, guide motorists and promote the safety of road users and the general public.

The agency urged motorists to follow all posted traffic signs, comply with instructions from traffic personnel and exercise extra caution when approaching and crossing Atugan Bridge.

Motorists Urged to Plan Ahead

With the new arrangement scheduled to begin on October 13 and remain in place until further notice, motorists using Sayre Highway are encouraged to plan their trips ahead of time, consider possible delays and observe traffic rules throughout their journey.

The DPWH thanked the public for its understanding and cooperation as authorities work to maintain safe and accessible passage across Atugan Bridge while awaiting the necessary repairs.

Motorists are advised to monitor official DPWH Region 10 announcements for further updates on traffic arrangements and road conditions in the area.
