DAVAO CITY, Philippines — Most parts of Mindanao are expected to experience cloudy skies, rainshowers and thunderstorms on Thursday, October 8, as the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) continues to affect the region, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

In its 05:00 AM Regional Weather Forecast issued October 8, 2026, PAGASA-Mindanao said the entire island could experience periods of rain and thunderstorms from Thursday morning through Friday morning.
The weather agency warned that moderate to at times heavy rains may trigger flash floods and landslides, particularly in areas vulnerable to flooding, steep terrain and rain-induced slope failures.
Residents, motorists, local disaster risk reduction and management offices, and communities near rivers, waterways and landslide-prone areas were urged to remain alert for rapidly changing weather conditions.
Rainy Conditions Expected Across Major Areas
The ITCZ is expected to bring generally unsettled weather across Mindanao, with cloudy conditions and rainshowers accompanied by thunderstorms forecast in the Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Davao Region, SOCCSKSARGEN, Caraga and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
In the Zamboanga Peninsula, cloudy skies with rainshowers and thunderstorms are forecast over Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga Sibugay and Isabela City.
Temperatures are expected to range from 23°C to 32°C, depending on the locality and time of day.
In Northern Mindanao, the same rainy and thundery conditions are expected in Bukidnon, Camiguin, Lanao del Norte, Misamis Occidental and Misamis Oriental. Bukidnon is forecast to have some of the coolest conditions in the region, with temperatures ranging from 19°C to 29°C.
Camiguin, meanwhile, could see temperatures reaching 32°C, while Lanao del Norte, Misamis Occidental and Misamis Oriental may reach around 32°C during the warmer part of the forecast period.
The Davao Region will likewise remain generally cloudy with rainshowers and thunderstorms. The forecast covers Metro Davao, Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur, Davao Oriental, Davao de Oro and Davao Occidental.
Temperatures in the region are expected to reach as high as 33°C, particularly in Davao de Oro, while Davao Occidental could see temperatures between 24°C and 30°C.
SOCCSKSARGEN Also Under Rain and Thunderstorm Watch
Cloudy skies with rainshowers and thunderstorms are also expected across North Cotabato, South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat and Sarangani.
North Cotabato could experience temperatures ranging from 24°C to 33°C, while South Cotabato is forecast at 23°C to 30°C.
Sultan Kudarat may see temperatures between 24°C and 32°C, while Sarangani is expected to range from 26°C to 30°C.
The combination of thunderstorms and potentially heavy rainfall may result in localized flooding, particularly in low-lying communities and areas with poor drainage.
Caraga Braces for More Rain
The rainy weather will also extend across Caraga, including Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur and Dinagat Islands.
Temperatures in the region could reach 33°C, with Agusan del Sur, Surigao del Norte and Dinagat Islands among the areas forecast to experience the warmer daytime conditions.
Coastal areas of Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur and Dinagat Islands are expected to experience slight to moderate sea conditions.
BARMM Areas Also Expect Thunderstorms
Several areas of BARMM are likewise forecast to remain cloudy with rainshowers and thunderstorms.
The forecast covers Cotabato City, Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, Maguindanao del Norte and Maguindanao del Sur.
Lanao del Sur could experience some of the lowest temperatures in the BARMM forecast area, with temperatures ranging from 21°C to 29°C.
Tawi-Tawi, meanwhile, could reach up to 31°C, while Sulu may experience temperatures between 24°C and 31°C.
Winds to Remain Light to Moderate
Across Mindanao, winds are expected to be light to moderate from the southwest to west.
Coastal waters are generally forecast to be slight to moderate, with wave heights ranging from approximately 0.6 to 2.1 meters.
The conditions may still affect small fishing boats and other light vessels, particularly during periods of thunderstorms and heavier rain.
PAGASA’s forecast indicates that the weather disturbance is not limited to a single portion of Mindanao, with the ITCZ affecting a broad area of the island.
Public Urged to Remain Alert
With moderate to at times heavy rainfall possible, communities are advised to monitor official weather updates and local advisories, especially during thunderstorms.
Residents in flood-prone and landslide-prone areas should be prepared for possible sudden rises in water levels and unstable slopes. Motorists are also advised to exercise caution on roads where heavy rain can reduce visibility and create slippery conditions.
Fisherfolk and operators of small boats should likewise monitor local sea and weather conditions before heading out, particularly when thunderstorms are developing over coastal areas.
PAGASA-Mindanao issued the forecast at 5:00 AM on October 8, valid until 5:00 AM on October 9, 2026.
For official weather updates and additional information, PAGASA advised the public to monitor its official channels and website.
