ZAMBOANGA CITY — September 22, 2026 — Authorities recovered an estimated ₱14 million worth of alleged smuggled cigarillos during a joint maritime operation along the shoreline of Stanvac, Barangay Campo Islam, in Zamboanga City early Tuesday morning.
The confiscation was carried out at around 4:00 a.m. on September 22 by personnel of the 2nd Zamboanga City Mobile Force Company (ZCMFC) Seaborne, together with other law enforcement units involved in the operation.
According to the initial information provided by authorities, the cigarillos were found abandoned along the seashore, with no individual immediately identified as being responsible for the shipment at the time of recovery.
The recovered tobacco products were estimated to have a total value of approximately ₱14 million, making the operation a significant seizure of suspected smuggled tobacco products in the city.
Authorities said the operation was conducted along the coastal area of Stanvac, where law enforcement personnel discovered the alleged contraband. The circumstances surrounding how the cigarillos reached the shoreline, as well as the identity of the persons who may have been involved in transporting or abandoning the shipment, remain subject to investigation.
The recovered items are expected to undergo proper inventory, documentation and disposition procedures in coordination with the concerned government agencies.
Authorities are also expected to determine the source, intended destination and possible recipients of the cigarillos as part of the continuing investigation.
No arrests were reported in connection with the seizure based on the initial information available.
The operation underscores the continuing enforcement efforts of authorities against the movement of untaxed or illegally imported tobacco products through the city’s coastal areas.
Law enforcement officials have yet to release further details regarding the specific brand, quantity and packaging of the confiscated cigarillos, as well as the agencies that will take custody of the seized products.
