CAMP ALAGAR, Cagayan de Oro City — A former member of the dismantled Sub-Regional Sentro de Grabidad Peddler (SRSDG Peddler) under the Sub-Regional Committee 2 (SRC2), North Central Mindanao Regional Committee (NCMRC) of the Communist Party of the Philippines–New People’s Army (CPP-NPA) voluntarily surrendered to authorities and turned over a firearm in Bukidnon on July 25, marking another step in the government’s continuing campaign to encourage former insurgents to abandon armed struggle and reintegrate into society.
The surrender was facilitated through the joint efforts of the Police Regional Office (PRO) 10, led by personnel of the 2nd Bukidnon Provincial Mobile Force Company (PMFC), together with other Philippine National Police operating units.
The surrenderer, identified only by the alias “Roden,” 34, married, and a resident of Barangay Mandahikan, Cabanglasan, Bukidnon, was listed under the Non-Periodic Status Report List (NPSRL).
During his surrender, Roden voluntarily turned over a homemade caliber .45 pistol, one steel magazine without markings, and ammunition.
The formal surrender took place at the headquarters of the 2nd Bukidnon PMFC in Barangay Pinamaloy, Don Carlos, Bukidnon.
According to authorities, Roden decided to return to the fold of the law after being encouraged by former communist terrorist group (CTG) members who had already benefited from the government’s reintegration initiatives. He reportedly realized the opportunities available through government assistance programs and expressed his desire to leave behind life in hiding in favor of a peaceful and productive future.
Police said the surrender reflects the growing confidence of former rebels in the government’s peace-building efforts and the effectiveness of sustained engagements with communities affected by insurgency.
Following his surrender, Roden was placed under the custody of the 2nd Bukidnon PMFC for debriefing, profiling, and proper disposition. Authorities are also preparing the necessary documentation to facilitate his enrollment in the government’s Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP).
The E-CLIP provides financial assistance, livelihood opportunities, skills training, and other support mechanisms aimed at helping former rebels successfully reintegrate into mainstream society and rebuild their lives.
PRO-10 Regional Director PBGen. Christopher N. Abrahano commended the operating units involved in the successful surrender, emphasizing that the development highlights the continuing gains of the government’s whole-of-nation approach against insurgency.
“The voluntary surrender of former CTG members demonstrates the continuing success of our intelligence-driven operations and collaborative efforts with our partner agencies,” Abrahano said.
“We encourage those who remain involved in the communist terrorist movement to choose peace, return to the fold of the law, and take advantage of the government’s reintegration programs for a better and more secure future,” he added.
The latest surrender adds to a series of voluntary returns by former communist rebels across Northern Mindanao, as security forces continue to combine intelligence operations with community engagement and reintegration initiatives designed to weaken the remaining insurgent networks while promoting lasting peace and development in conflict-affected communities.
