The alarming incident prompted an immediate response from police officers, preventing what could have escalated into a more serious tragedy.

Among those who nearly became victims was resident Joef Enot, who recounted his terrifying encounter with the suspect.

“I don’t know what to say, but I almost became a victim of this incident. Thank you always, Papa God, for keeping us away from danger. The blades he was carrying were very long, and fortunately, I was able to avoid him. Incidents like this are truly alarming,” Enot said in a social media post.

Enot expressed gratitude that he managed to escape unharmed and commended law enforcement authorities for their swift and careful intervention.

“Salute to our police officers for their quick and cautious action. Everyone, please stay safe,” he added.

According to police reports, personnel from the City Traffic Enforcement Unit immediately responded after receiving information that a resident was attacking motorists with a bladed weapon along MCLL Highway.

The responding officers, PMSG Paul Roger Castro and PSSg Albinar Milahad, acting under the direct supervision of PCPT Beethoven G. Buenaobra, Officer-in-Charge of the unit, rushed to the area to contain the situation and ensure public safety.

Authorities successfully neutralized and arrested the suspect before further harm could be inflicted on the public.

Following the arrest, the suspect was immediately transported to Sanitarium Hospital in Pasobolong for medical attention and proper disposition.

Police did not immediately release the identity of the suspect or disclose the motive behind the attack. An investigation is ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident, including whether the individual was under the influence of illegal substances or suffering from a mental health condition at the time.

The incident underscored the critical role of rapid police response in emergencies, where every second can mean the difference between life and death.

In a statement, the Philippine National Police reiterated its commitment to protecting communities and ensuring public safety under its campaign, “Bagong PNP para sa Bagong Pilipinas: Serbisyong Mabilis, Tapat, at Nararamdaman.”

Residents, meanwhile, have been urged to remain vigilant, report suspicious behavior immediately, and prioritize their safety whenever confronted with potentially dangerous situations in public places.

The swift action of responding officers was widely praised by community members, who said the prompt intervention likely prevented injuries or loss of life along one of the city’s busy thoroughfares.

As authorities continue their investigation, residents hope the incident serves as a reminder of the importance of community awareness and the need for continued cooperation between the public and law enforcement in maintaining peace and security.
