TUKURAN, Zamboanga del Sur — A suspected carnapping offender was apprehended on May 31, 2026, following a rapid and coordinated security operation conducted by troops of the 53rd Infantry (MATAPAT) Battalion, Philippine Army, in partnership with the Philippine National Police in Barangay Cabilinan, Tukuran town.

According to military reports, the operation was launched after the Tukuran Municipal Police Station relayed information regarding the carnapping of an XRM 125 motorcycle owned by Pastor Romel P. Bojeres, a resident of Purok Makugihon in Tukuran.
Acting swiftly on the report, personnel from the Cabilinan Patrol Base under the leadership of Staff Sergeant Jesus R. Sumagang Jr. immediately established a spot checkpoint along possible escape routes in an effort to intercept the fleeing suspect.
The quick response and coordinated efforts of the military troops and local police proved crucial in the successful interception and apprehension of the suspect before he could evade authorities.
Following the operation, the arrested individual was turned over to the Tukuran Municipal Police Station for proper legal disposition and the filing of appropriate criminal charges.
Military officials said the successful operation underscored the importance of vigilance, rapid response, and strong collaboration between the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine National Police in maintaining peace and order and combating criminal activities in local communities.
The 53rd Infantry Battalion emphasized that the incident also demonstrated the unit’s continuing commitment to supporting law enforcement agencies in ensuring the safety and security of residents across its area of responsibility.
“The battalion remains steadfast in its mission to protect communities and preserve peace and order through proactive security operations, effective inter-agency coordination, and dedicated public service,” the unit said in a statement.
Authorities have yet to release further details regarding the identity of the suspect and the circumstances surrounding the carnapping incident as the investigation continues.
