A 15-year-old student from Cagayan de Oro City who was reported missing earlier this month was found dead floating in the coastal waters of Purok 1, Barangay Jampason in Jasaan, authorities confirmed.

Police identified the victim only through the alias “Boyet” in compliance with laws protecting the identity of minors. He was a resident of Barangay Kauswagan, Cagayan de Oro City.
According to the Philippine National Police, the teenager had been missing since May 20 after allegedly leaving their home without informing his family.
Initial investigation revealed that the victim’s family later examined his cellphone and discovered messages indicating that he had recently gone through a painful breakup with his girlfriend. Authorities said the exchange suggested the two had argued before ending their relationship.
Investigators are looking into the possibility that the teenager may have taken his own life, although police emphasized that the case remains under investigation pending further examination and confirmation of circumstances surrounding his death.
The discovery of the body shocked residents in the coastal community of Jampason, where locals reportedly noticed the body floating in the sea before immediately informing authorities.
Police coordinated with the victim’s family following the recovery operation, while authorities also reminded the public of the importance of providing emotional support and mental health intervention, especially among young people facing emotional distress.
The tragic incident has renewed calls for stronger mental health awareness and family support systems for adolescents struggling with personal problems and emotional challenges.
