COTABATO CITY — A 39-year-old man was killed after being shot by an unidentified assailant along TV Juliano Street, Mother Barangay Rosary Heights, on Monday afternoon, in what authorities described as a sudden and targeted attack.

The victim was identified as Nicasio Cabañog, a resident of the same area. He was declared dead on the spot due to multiple gunshot wounds.
Based on initial police investigation, Cabañog was on his way home aboard his motorcycle when the suspect reportedly approached and opened fire without warning. The attack happened in a populated area, causing panic among nearby residents and commuters.
After the shooting, the gunman immediately fled the scene in an unknown direction, leaving the victim sprawled on the road. Responding authorities rushed to the area, but the victim had already succumbed to his injuries.
Police units have cordoned off the area and launched a follow-up investigation to establish the identity of the suspect and determine the motive behind the killing. As of this writing, no suspect has been identified or arrested.
Authorities are also reviewing possible eyewitness accounts and any available CCTV footage from nearby establishments that may help reconstruct the incident.
In a statement, police urged the public to remain vigilant and to report any information that could lead to the identification and arrest of the perpetrator. They assured that all leads will be thoroughly pursued as part of the ongoing investigation.
The killing adds to growing concerns over street violence in Cotabato City, where similar incidents in recent months have prompted calls for tighter security and faster resolution of criminal cases.
