ZAMBOANGA CITY — In line with the observance of Women’s Month, authorities successfully facilitated the safe return of a Gender-Based Violence (GBV) survivor to her family in Barangay Talon-Talon, highlighting ongoing efforts to support and protect women affected by violence.

The Ministry of Social Services and Development (MSSD), through its Zamboanga Satellite Office, led the reintegration of the survivor under its HATID Program, which ensures the safe return and recovery of individuals who have experienced abuse and other forms of violence.
According to MSSD, the woman was first rescued in November 2025 by the Philippine National Police Women and Children Protection Desk, after authorities learned of the abuse she had suffered. Due to the severe psychological trauma she experienced, she was temporarily sheltered at the MSSD Kanlungan Center in Maguindanao del Norte, where she received protective care and psychosocial support.
Authorities said the survivor later exhibited symptoms of depression, prompting officials to refer her for specialized psychiatric care at the Southern Philippines Medical Center in Davao City. After undergoing two weeks of treatment and comprehensive psychiatric evaluation, medical professionals declared that her condition had improved and that she was stable enough to return home and reunite with her family.
Before facilitating her return to the community, the MSSD worked closely with the Zamboanga City Social Welfare and Development Office to conduct a thorough family assessment and debriefing session. The activity aimed to prepare the survivor’s children and relatives for her reintegration and ensure that a supportive and safe environment would be in place upon her return.
Officials emphasized that the coordinated intervention was necessary not only for the survivor’s recovery but also to prevent further harm and help rebuild family ties.
The HATID Program continues to serve as a key initiative in assisting victims of violence, trafficking, and other vulnerable sectors by providing protection, rehabilitation, and safe reintegration into their communities.
As the country marks Women’s Month, authorities underscored the importance of strengthening mechanisms that protect women from abuse and provide survivors with access to medical, psychological, and social support services.
Advocates said cases like this demonstrate the vital role of government agencies and community institutions in ensuring that survivors of gender-based violence are given a chance to heal, rebuild their lives, and safely return to their families.
