A 20-year-old man was wounded after an unidentified gunman opened fire inside his residence shortly before midnight in Poblacion, Barangay Curuan in Zamboanga City.

The victim was identified as John Mark Mahinay, who sustained a gunshot wound to the thigh during the attack that occurred while he was reportedly inside their house.

According to initial reports, the suspect suddenly fired several shots toward the victim, causing panic among members of the household. Mahinay was immediately rushed by his family to the nearest hospital where he received emergency medical treatment.

Authorities who responded to the scene recovered around 11 empty shells from a .45-caliber firearm, indicating that multiple shots were fired during the incident.

Police investigators are currently conducting a thorough investigation to determine the identity of the gunman and the motive behind the shooting. As of this writing, no official update has been released regarding the victim’s current medical condition.

The shooting has raised concerns among residents of Barangay Curuan, as the attack occurred inside the victim’s own home, highlighting the brazenness of the assailant.

Local police have appealed to the public for assistance, urging anyone with information that could help identify the suspect to coordinate with authorities as follow-up operations continue.
