DATU ODIN SINSUAT, Maguindanao del Norte — A 43-year-old cashier of the Maguindanao Electric Cooperative (MAGELCO) narrowly escaped death after she was ambushed and shot by unidentified suspects along the diversion road in Barangay Tamontaka on Thursday afternoon, February 5, 2026.

Police identified the victim as Kubaisa Canakan Sinsuat, a resident of Pansacala Street, Rosary Heights, Cotabato City. According to the Police Regional Office–BARMM, Sinsuat was driving her red Toyota Vios (plate number MBD 6872) when gunmen suddenly opened fire on her vehicle at around 5:45 p.m..
The attack caused Sinsuat to sustain a gunshot wound to her face. Despite the injury, authorities said she was fortunate to have survived the ambush. She was immediately rushed to Notre Dame Hospital, where she is currently undergoing treatment and is reported to be in stable condition.
PNP BARMM spokesperson Captain Steffi Salanguit said the suspects fled the scene immediately after the shooting, heading in an unknown direction. A hot pursuit operation was launched, but as of this writing, no arrests have been made.
Initial police investigation suggests that the attack was a targeted ambush, although authorities have yet to determine the motive behind the incident. Investigators are now examining possible personal, professional, or criminal angles, including whether the victim’s work with MAGELCO may have been a factor.
“We are conducting a thorough investigation and coordinating with other units to identify and locate the suspects,” Salanguit said. “We are also reviewing available CCTV footage and gathering information from possible witnesses.”
The shooting has once again raised concerns over public safety in the area, particularly along major roads frequently used by motorists. Local residents and commuters have called on authorities to strengthen security patrols and ensure the swift arrest of those responsible.
Police urged anyone with information related to the incident to coordinate with the Datu Odin Sinsuat Police Station to help expedite the investigation.
The case remains under active investigation.
