BAUNGON, BUKIDNON — A 34-year-old man was shot dead in the head while attending a wake in Purok 6, Barangay Langaon, Baungon, Bukidnon, shortly after 6 a.m. on Monday, September 28, 2026, following a fistfight with another man during a drinking session.
Police identified the victim as alias Raffy, 34, while the alleged gunman was identified as alias Arturo, 36.
According to the initial police account, the victim and the suspect were both attending the wake when an argument suddenly broke out between them while they were drinking.
The confrontation escalated into a fistfight, during which Arturo allegedly lost to Raffy.
After the fight, the suspect reportedly left the area.
Police said that several minutes later, Arturo allegedly returned to the wake carrying a firearm. He then reportedly approached Raffy and shot him directly in the head before immediately fleeing the area in an undetermined direction.
Raffy’s family rushed him to Talakag Provincial Hospital for emergency medical treatment. However, the attending physician declared him dead on arrival at about 7:31 a.m.
Following the shooting, Baungon police immediately coordinated with the Regional Forensic Unit 10 (RFU-10) in Cagayan de Oro City to assist in the processing and examination of the crime scene.
Initial forensic processing reportedly yielded no spent bullet shell casings at the scene.
Because no shell casing was recovered, RFU-10 personnel advised investigators to collect blood samples from bloodstains left at the area for forensic and serological examination. The samples may form part of the continuing investigation and could help establish evidence relevant to the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
Police investigators are also continuing to document the events leading to the fatal shooting and determine the circumstances surrounding the confrontation between the victim and the suspect.
As of the latest police information, the suspect remains at large.
The Baungon Municipal Police Station has launched a hot-pursuit and manhunt operation to locate and arrest Arturo, who reportedly fled immediately after the shooting.
Authorities have yet to disclose whether the firearm used in the killing has been recovered or whether additional witnesses have come forward.
Police are expected to continue gathering physical and testimonial evidence as the investigation proceeds, while the suspect’s alleged involvement remains subject to the outcome of the investigation and appropriate legal proceedings.
