PANTUKAN, Davao de Oro — In a decisive strike against the proliferation of loose firearms, the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) arrested two alleged gunrunners and confiscated four unlicensed firearms—including a high-powered M16 rifle—during a buy-bust operation in Barangay Tambongon, Pantukan, on January 25, 2026.

The operation, conducted at around 1:21 p.m., was carried out by the CIDG Davao del Norte Provincial Field Unit in coordination with the Philippine National Police Special Action Force (PNP-SAF) and territorial police units. Authorities said the action forms part of OPLAN PAGLALANSAG OMEGA, the intensified nationwide campaign ordered by PNP Chief PLTGEN Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr. to dismantle illegal firearms networks.
Arrested were suspects identified only as “Rico” and “Rudy,” both residents of Barangay La Union, San Isidro, Davao Oriental. Investigators said the pair were caught in the act of allegedly trading and delivering firearms without the required permits, licenses, or authority—an offense under Republic Act No. 10591, the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.
Seized from the suspects were one caliber 5.56 Hydra-Matic M16A1 rifle and three caliber .45 pistols—a Remington, an STI Cat Custom, and a Colt MK IV—along with assorted magazines and live ammunition. A government-issued vehicle allegedly used to transport the firearms was also impounded. The firearms were estimated to be worth ₱280,000.
According to a report submitted to PMGEN Robert A.A. Morico II, CIDG Director, the suspects are believed to be part of a gunrunning network operating across Davao Oriental, Davao de Oro, and Davao del Norte, fueling the circulation of illegal weapons that authorities say directly contribute to violent crimes.
CIDG leadership commended PLTCOL Ariel T. Huesca, Acting Chief of CIDG Regional Field Unit 11, and PLTCOL Rogelio B. Pineda Jr., head of the CIDG Davao del Norte Provincial Field Unit, for the successful operation. Officials said the seizure of multiple firearms in a single operation underscores the unit’s resolve to prevent crimes by taking “the very instruments of killing and violence” off the streets.
“The CIDG is resolute in accounting for and confiscating all unlicensed firearms,” the group said in a statement, warning gunrunners and gun-for-hire criminals that law enforcement remains relentless. “This operation sends a clear message: illegal firearms have no place in our communities, and those who profit from their spread will be held to account.”
The suspects are now in custody and facing charges for violations of RA 10591 as authorities continue their crackdown on loose firearms nationwide.
