MARAMAG, Bukidnon — Police are still groping for answers after a 60-year-old man was shot dead in broad daylight by assailants posing as delivery riders in Barangay Danggawan, Maramag town, Bukidnon, on Monday morning, January 26, 2026.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Alexander E. Eugenio, chief of the Maramag Municipal Police Station, said the shooting occurred shortly after 8:00 a.m. at Purok-5, where the victim, identified only by his alias “Ron-ron,” was attacked outside his residence.
Initial investigation revealed that two unidentified individuals, riding a black Kawasaki Bajaj CT100 single motorcycle, arrived in the area and pretended to deliver a parcel to the victim. After confirming his identity, one of the suspects immediately opened fire.
“The first shot missed, which led to a brief commotion,” Eugenio said. “Moments later, the suspects managed to fire again, hitting the victim twice in the head, causing his instantaneous death.”
After the shooting, the suspects fled swiftly aboard the same motorcycle, heading toward an unknown direction.
Despite the brazen nature of the attack, police said they are still blank on the motive behind the killing. According to Eugenio, the victim had no known enemies or conflicts, based on accounts from his family and barangay records.
“There were no reports of disputes or involvement in any trouble,” Eugenio said in an interview with RMN and iFM News Team. “In fact, the victim had just been discharged from the hospital recently due to an illness.”
Authorities are now deepening their investigation, reviewing possible angles including personal, criminal, or other undisclosed motives, and working to identify and locate the suspects.
Police also appealed to the public for any information that could help solve the case, especially from residents who may have seen the suspects or the motorcycle before or after the incident.
The killing has sparked concern among residents, as the use of a parcel delivery ruse highlights a disturbing tactic that allows perpetrators to get close to their target without immediately raising suspicion.
The Maramag police assured the community that intensified patrols and follow-up operations are underway to prevent similar incidents and bring the perpetrators to justice.
