LAMBAYONG, Sultan Kudarat — A barangay councilor was killed on the spot after being shot by still unidentified assailants on Tuesday afternoon in Barangay Udtong, Lambayong town.
Police identified the victim as Rolly Omar, a barangay councilor of Barangay Sigayan, Lambayong, Sultan Kudarat Province. Initial reports said the shooting occurred at around 2:00 p.m. near a hanging bridge in Barangay Udtong. The victim sustained multiple gunshot wounds to different parts of his body from an undetermined firearm, resulting in his immediate death.
Personnel of the Philippine National Police (PNP) immediately responded and conducted a crime scene investigation. Authorities said the suspects fled the scene after the attack, prompting the launch of a hot pursuit operation to track them down.
Police are still determining the motive behind the killing and have appealed to the public for any information that could help identify and arrest the perpetrators. The fatal shooting of the barangay official has alarmed residents and renewed calls for heightened security in the area.
