GLAN, Sarangani Province — A 46-year-old mother tragically died in the hospital after being violently struck by her own son with a wooden bench in Purok Islam, Barangay Big Margus.

Glan Municipal Police Chief Col. Jovenson Bayona identified the victim as Laima, 46, and her assailant as her 24-year-old son, Bardo, who is reportedly intoxicated at the time of the attack. According to Col. Bayona, Bardo arrived at his family home already drunk and demanded money from his mother to buy alcohol. When Laima refused, explaining that the money was only enough for rice, Bardo allegedly flew into a rage, grabbing a wooden bench and repeatedly hitting his own mother.

Laima was rushed to the hospital in critical condition but succumbed to her injuries after several hours. Following the incident, authorities launched a manhunt for Bardo, who remains at large. Glan police are urging residents to report any information about his whereabouts.

This case highlights the dangers of alcohol-fueled violence within households and serves as a grim reminder of the need for intervention and community vigilance.
