DAVAO CITY — A 39-year-old motorcycle rider will be spending New Year inside the detention cell of Buhangin Police Station 5 after assaulting a police auxiliary and challenging officers to a fistfight during a routine patrol in Barangay Buhangin, Davao City.

The suspect, identified only as “Fedelito,” a resident of St. Anthony, Genesis Street in the same barangay, is facing charges of Direct Assault and Resistance and Disobedience to a Person in Authority, police said.

Initial police investigation revealed that a patrol team—composed of a duty police officer and a police auxiliary—spotted the suspect around Block 36, NHA, Barangay Buhangin, riding a motorcycle with two back riders, all of whom were not wearing helmets. Officers noticed the motorcycle was zigzagging dangerously, prompting them to signal the rider to stop for a safety check.

Instead of complying, the suspect reportedly became aggressive, shouting curses at the officers who were merely advising them to take a tricycle for their own safety. The situation escalated when the suspect suddenly punched the police auxiliary, identified only as “Coredo,” in the chest and challenged him to a fistfight.

Despite attempts by responding officers to de-escalate the situation, the suspect allegedly continued shouting and even pushed the officer’s hand when asked for his driver’s license and OR/CR documents—leading to his arrest.

Authorities said the suspect will welcome 2026 behind bars, as the city prosecutor’s office is expected to resume operations on January 2, 2026.

Police remind motorists to strictly observe road safety rules, particularly the use of helmets, and to cooperate with law enforcement to avoid similar incidents.
