SULOP, Davao del Sur — A birthday celebration in Barangay Labon turned violent late Saturday night after a drunken argument between relatives escalated into a stabbing incident, leaving one man injured, police said.

Authorities identified the victim as alias “Adobo,” 37, a resident of Purok 5, Sitio Dalay, Barangay Labon. The suspect was identified as alias “Ron-Ron,” 38, also a resident of the same area.

Based on the initial police investigation, both men were attending a birthday celebration of a relative and were drinking alcohol when an argument broke out at around 10:45 p.m. on Saturday, December 13, 2025. In an attempt to defuse the situation, “Ron-Ron” reportedly left the gathering and went home.

However, the dispute did not end there. Police said the victim allegedly followed the suspect to his house, where the two resumed their argument. The confrontation turned violent when the suspect allegedly stabbed “Adobo” with a bladed weapon (sundang), inflicting injuries.

Response from authorities was delayed due to the remote location of the incident, but the victim was eventually given medical attention. Police confirmed that “Adobo” is now in stable condition and recovering from his injuries.

In the early hours of Sunday, December 14, 2025, the suspect voluntarily surrendered to the police through the intervention of barangay officials. He is currently in police custody and is expected to face appropriate charges as the investigation continues.

Police have once again reminded the public of the dangers of excessive alcohol consumption, noting that many violent incidents stem from heated arguments fueled by intoxication, even among family members.
